Some of you might have heard about synaesthesia – crossing of sensory perceptions. For example, smelling something that you see. Jo Malone actually perceived the world mostly via her sense of smell and this is partly why her brands are so amazing. It was however usually perceived as a neural condition but actually we all have it to an extent.
Our senses are interconnected. We use them all to perceive the world around and they all affect each other. So for example, when our eyes see something as warm and approachable (due to colour) but it’s cold in the place, our brain will feel a little confused.com. Another great example is how material and colour of cutlery can change our perception and enjoyment of food (learn more here – coming soon).
But have you thought about fashion that tastes?
A fashion designer Martyna Barbara Golik in her project ‘Touch That Taste!’ translates the sense of taste into texture, creating clothes and footwear which transmit the feelings that we have when tasting sour, sweet, bitter, salty and unami food.
